Spring Meadow Nursery, Inc. (SMN) is based in Grand Haven, Michigan and was founded in 1981 by Dale Deppe and Liz Deppe. A propagation nursery that specializes in shrubs, vines, and small trees, they are an industry leader in new, colorful flowering shrubs. Their catalog offers over 400 different cultivars sold in trays of 2 1/4", 4", or Quick Turn (one quart) sized potted liners to over 3,000 nurseries, garden centers, and mail order companies located across North America.

Dale Deppe, an innovator and proven leader in the industry, was awarded the 2003 NMPro / ANLA Grower of the year award, the 2002 Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association Grower of the Year award, the Scott Medal from the Scott Arboretum, and is a Fellow of the International Plant Propagators Society.

The ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs brand was developed by Spring Meadow Nursery in 1998 to give growers, retailer and consumers access to the best new flowering shrubs. ColorChoice represents breeders in North America, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, England, Poland, South Korea, and Japan. In 2004, Spring Meadow joined the Proven Winners® brand as licensee for woody plants and shrubs to form Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs. There are currently over 280 Proven Winners ColorChoice varieties, including Wine & Roses® Weigela, Midnight Wine® Weigela, 'Limelight' Hydrangea, Black Lace® Sambucus, Little Henry® Itea and Chiffon® Hibiscus. Sales of ColorChoice plants are in excess of million units.

ColorChoice was awarded the prestigious NMPro Innovation Award in 2001 for its plants and its unique approach to plant introduction. The foundation of the program is four-fold: 1) the protection of colorful, easy to grow woody plants with superior retail appeal 2) helping growers and retailers sell more plants at better profit margins by providing extensive marketing and promotion, and 3) maximizing the distribution and availability of each plant by selling liners and by sublicensing growers across North America. As a result retailers are free to purchase ColorChoice plants through their preferred nursery vendors.

ColorChoice varieties are promoted to growers, landscapers and designers in major nursery trade magazines, in major garden center magazines and to consumers in magazines such as Better Homes & Gardens, Magnolia Journal, Southern Living, Horticulture, and  Fine Gardening. Their consumer website, www.ProvenWinners-Shrubs.com, provides end consumers with information to help them be successful with new shrubs.
