I've been growing Proven Winner's Supertunia Vistas for many years on a side slope that faces a walking path. People tell me that viewing my Vista petunias on the way to and from school/work is the highlight of their day. One year I didn't grow them. Boy, did I hear about that! Aren't you going to grow your flowers again this year? I love trying new plants so this year I was excited to plant Cool Jazz Jazz along with 3 other Vistas colours. I've never had a problem with spider mites on my Vista flowers until this year. I noticed that the Cool Jazz petunias were badly infested and that the infestation has spread to Vistas touching Cool Jazz. Other Vistas (Bubblegum, Silverberry, Jazzberry) that aren't touching Cool Jazz are not affected. I can't help but wonder if Cool Jazz was ready for release. I've pulled them all, trimmed the damage off the other Vistas and have sprayed with a Safer's End-All. I could pull them all but normally I don't do that until November. If I pull them up now I know I'm going to hear about it from a lot of people! In previous years Vistas have shrugged off light snowfalls and continued looking gorgeous for weeks afterwards. Typically I only pulled them, not because they aren't still beautiful, but because the end of November is when curb side yard waste pickup finishes for the year. Normally the side slope is a riot of colour with the branches of one Vista growing into another. Cool Jazz never became as big as the other colours but now because I've had to pull them, there are big gaps on the side slope. Very disappointing.

Maintenance Notes:Supertunia® petunia plants are easy to grow and will flower non-stop from planting to hard frost if simple maintenance tasks are performed. Growing Supertunias in full sun to part sun is important for their strong growth and bloom performance. They do not require deadheading, meaning the removal of spent flowers, to stay in bloom all season.
Petunias thrive with consistent moisture. Do not let them wilt severely before watering again.
Supertunia petunias perform best when fed regularly with Proven Winners plant foods. At planting time, in containers and landscapes, mix Proven Winners Premium Continuous Release Plant Food into the soil, following the rates specified on the packaging. Reapply halfway through the growing season.
Additionally, Supertunias should be fed regularly with Proven Winners Premium Water Soluble Plant Food according to the rates specified on the packaging. For Supertunias growing in containers, feed every third time you water or at least once per week. For Supertunias growing in the ground, feed once every one to two weeks.

By midsummer, it will be time to trim up your Supertunias. Trim the longest stems, bringing them in line with the others, taking care not to remove more than 20% of the plant. Trimming petunias in the landscape is not usually necessary but cutting them back by 20% can make the plants fuller. Follow up by feeding them with water soluble plant food to promote fresh new growth and blooms.

I was so excited when this color came out… as I love supertunias (especially vistas) and like to plant more cool toned pink/purple shades of flowers. I have these in my long window box and they’ve been a big disappointment. Their flower display has been average, not what I expected from a vista. But the biggest disappointment is they go to seed unless I manually deadhead them. The main reason I spend extra for supertunias is because they are supposed to self clean. I could have saved money and used regular petunias.

I purchased 4 of these cool jazz supertunia and they match growing habits with the bubblegum supertunia. They have a vigor and fast spread and love the heat. Great plant for the South!
