Double Play spiraeas have both colorful flowers and colorful foliage. In addition to vibrant pink summer flowers, Double Play Artisan has rich purple red new growth in spring. You'll get months of vibrant color from this adaptable, easy to grow plant. It maintains its compact, mounded shape with very little pruning, and has more vivid color than other spiraea varieties.

    • I ordered 3, quart size, last year and were planted within 2 days of arrival in early Oct. All three survived and leafed out in spring however one had leaves that were much smaller than the other two and within a month had died. The other two have grown vigorously but their appearance has been underwhelming. The reddish new growth is not noticeable compared with my other PW spireas and the first flush of blossoms were paler than expected and faded quickly. I lightly pruned and 5 weeks later am still waiting to see if round 2 is any better. In hindsight I would have been much better off getting more Double Play Doozies!

    • I planted 4 Artisan spirea a few years ago. I am very happy with them. They provide visual interest with both foliage and blooms. They are on the west side of our home and do very well there. Last winter we had significant rabbit damage. Two of the bushes had so many branches eaten off that I was afraid they would need to be replaced. But they all filled out beautifully in the spring and all 4 bloomed equally. After blooming I gave them a light trim and a month later they are sprouting fresh leaves in burgundy red that really pop above the green leaves. Beautiful and resilient.

    • Purchased & planted two of these in fall of 2015. They both survived the winter just fine, and the best part is that the rabbits don't eat them!! Since I planted them so late last year I really haven't fully enjoyed them yet, but they look really good now and may prove to be my favorite plant this summer! I would highly recommend for anyone who has lots of rabbits in their yard all the time. So nice to have plants that don't have to stay in a cage or constantly be spayed with deer/rabbit repellent! And these are also very Hardy, look great, and require very little care. Very glad that I found these!!
