Keeping these plants watered will result in larger flowers and lush foliage. Deadheading will improve the appearance of the plant, but is not necessary for continued bloom. It is best to plant Hibiscus in the garden before the heat of the summer arrives, and should be heavily mulched the first winter. In spring, cut back any remaining stems before new growth appears. Do not trim back in fall. A strong pair of loppers or a saw will be necessary to cut this plant back. Be advised that Hibiscus is always one of the last perennials to emerge in spring. Be patient, even if you think it is dead, it most likely isn't. Its vigorous growth rate more than makes up for this late start, however. Japanese beetles find these plants especially delicious.

Purchased this in summer 2021. It did fairly well, but then it died over the winter. Very disappointed.

I bought 2 of these plants last summer and while they preformed very well neither one came back this year. I also purchased 6 other proven winner hibiscus in other varieties and all have come back beautifully.

It’s a no for me. I purchased and planted this hibiscus in-ground late last summer (zone 8). I own four other hardy hibiscus and have had zero problems with them. This one died over the winter and unfortunately Proven Winners only guarantees their plants health and vitality until it arrives at your front door. Needless to say, I am very disappointed and I’m currently in the market for another hardy hibiscus from elsewhere.
