Selected all available colors for the way they remind me of desert plants, and they really are carefree and spread out generously but not obnoxiously. The one drawback is the day's flowers are already closed by 2pm each afternoon. That means there are no blooms to enjoy in the evening. I don't recall if the original moss roses I remember from my childhood also closed so early. Nevertheless the electric colors are lovely while they last. I'm happy I found them locally.

Maintenance Notes:The flowers of Portulaca will close at night and reopen the next day. They will tolerate dry soils, although they will perform optimally with average moisture. These are tough plants that will tolerate poor soils and do not need a lot of fertilizer to perform well. Deadheading is not needed.
This durable and colorful flowering succulent blooms all summer long in juicy shades of tangerine, pink, red, fuchsia, and yellow without deadheading. Choose which color suits your color palette when you buy. The vivid blooms are a welcome sight especially in high summer when they really come into their own. This plant is a great choice for warm climates and poor, drier soils.
