I planted 5 of these. After planting during the spring, I noticed that there were several branches that died but by the end of the season all had filled out rather nicely. I specifically bought this variety due to the plant tag boasting red fall foliage, but I am disappointed that none of the 5 shrubs turned anything but a dark green. The flowers bloomed in mid summer and lasted a couple weeks but didn't have a scent and weren't overwhelmingly 'pretty.' I'm willing to give them another season to see how they grow into their space, but unsure if I will keep them long term. Zone 6.

Plant near a window or outdoor area where you can enjoy its fragrance. Its small stature makes it a nice choice for adding color and scent to perennial gardens.
Itea is one of the few shrubs that will still flower reasonably well even in shade.Maintenance Notes:
Itea needs little maintenance. In spring, after new growth begins to emerge, you can remove any stems that aren't showing signs of life - do not prune until you see signs of new growth.

I planted 2 Fizzy Mizzies this spring (2022). Both plants started out doing great, then in the middle of the summer, both plants completely defoliated. I still haven't determined the reason for this. I thought both plants were dead but then a few weeks later, I noticed that both were putting on leaves again, although not all over. After checking the sections that were not putting out new growth, I did determine that a considerable amount of both plants was dead. Hopefully, the part that is alive survives the winter and really starts bouncing back next spring.Mavis Jones, North Carolina, United States, 1 year ago
