I bought two Pink Mink clematis last spring for matching trellises I had secured on my fence on either side of my garden shed. I live in Zone 5b -- Denver, CO. The location is sun to part sun. I saw Laura's from Garden Answer and thought they would be perfect to grow up the trellises and then (maybe) over the top of the shed. I was very anxious to receive them and get them planted. They were a bit of a mess when I received them, but I took a lot time and caution unravelling them so they could begin their journey up their respective trellis, I fertilized and planted them. and watered them. While after one season, they are both very much alive, they have only grown about 16 inches. Not a single bloom. So, they've been a disappointment. That said, I am going to see if they survive the Colorado winter, prune them back a bit in late winter/early spring and see how they do next season. I really want them to survive and thrive. I think they will be beautiful if they bloom and grow! I'm taking the sleep, creep, leap approach and will give them three years, then I will reassess.
