Double Play Doozie^® Spirea Spiraea x

I bought this plant from a clearance aisle at my local home supply store. On the aisle it looked like it only needed some extra water and TLC, and knowing it was a PW and a perennial in our area, I took a chance and brought it home! I bought the plant in late spring and during the first year it immediately popped right back to life and showed gorgeous foliage and a few but beautiful blooms! By the second year, this plant doubled in size and had an abundance of blooms all year long! The texture of these blooms are unlike anything else in our garden and they bring me so much joy. The color of the blooms start as a lighter pink that fades into a dark raspberry. Each bloom lasts for weeks and they continuously re-bloom from late spring to late fall in our zone. The plant always has breathtaking foliage! The plant’s overall foliage color is a true plant green but the new growth is a dark red like you see in new growth on rose bushes, making the plant even more interesting to look at. This is our third year with this plant and it has tripled, if not quadrupled, in size! The plant already has bunches of buds and the foliage is just gorgeous! It is truly a top performer, and is complemented by almost all who come into our yard. I highly recommend this plant and I am buying another one this season, along with a candy corn spirea! I do not know if the slow amount of blooms the first season was due to the condition that I bought it in, or if the plant was just not truly mature at its 2.5l size, but the second and third years have made the first slow season worth every second! Absolutely beautiful. Planted 5 three years ago as a focal point behind my perennial bed surrounding a weeping Japanese Maple. I pruned them in February 1/3 and they have been spectacular this year. I look for deer and rabbit resistant plants because they think my yard is a buffet. I never got around to fertilizing my Doozies this year but they didn't care. Last year we had a very dry May and this year we've had ample rainfall. They don't care. They just keep blooming. Even the new growth is interesting because it's red. Wish I could add a photo. They're magazine worthy and my social media gardening friends have wowed and drooled over my photos.

This plant is just stunning and its blooms are especially beautiful as cut flowers for bouquets! The first year planted in the ground, this plant did not flower but it had beautiful foliage! Especially in fall! The second year the plant grew a good bit in size but only produced just a few flowers, but WOW the third year +, this plant showed its true beauty! It bloomed beautiful large flowers that changed colors based on their age of bloom! This plant continued to bloom and bloom, specifically starting in May here in zone 7B. I have a lot of flowers and plants and this is by far one of my favorites and a true show stopper in the garden! I am so happy I planted this plant, even though it took two years to adjust, it is definitely worth it!! Just be patient! This plant is planted right below our pink Crape Myrtle where the foliage and texture of the spirea really compliments this tree!

We planted 4 of these to replace some mini fountain grass that had died off from the winter freeze in Texas. We just love them, they have grown and have bloomed continuously. Very Happy With.

I planted three of these spirea late spring, last year. They settled in, grew a bit, but no blooms. This spring they really came to life. Each shrub is easily 3-4x's the size it was last spring; the foliage was beautiful early through mid-spring; the blooms started in mid-May and it's just been stunning. They are sited in a part sun spot under a deciduous tree, in a front garden bed, and the deer leave it alone. Proven Winners' overview about Doozie is accurate. It is already reblooming; it is more upright than other spirea, and the bloom/foliage colors are true to the overview descriptions and, the pics on their site.
