    Features

Soft, cuddly silver foliage is the main calling card for this lovely plant. It is a wonderful component plant to add a pop of bright color. The large foliage adds great texture to your container planting. It can function as a thriller or a filler in recipes, but either way it will be the focal point of your container. It is happiest with abundant sun and warm to hot temperatures. It prefers moist to dry soil and will not tolerate consistently wet soils.

This head-turner makes an outstanding focal point in containers and landscapes and has fantastic impulse appeal. Large, silky, silvery white leaves grow quickly to form a substantial, upright clump.

Large, silky-textured, silvery white leaves form a substantial clump and make an outstanding focal point in containers and landscapes. Like many felted silver plants, good drainage and abundant sunshine are important to achieve healthy, vigorous growth. This plant looks right at home in crevice gardens, shallow troughs and planted along the edge of a rock wall. When some plants start to languish in the summer heat, Angel Wings is just getting started. Deer and rabbits don’t enjoy its textured foliage, but gardeners will find it hard not to “pet” since its leaves are as soft as a puppy’s ears.

    Uses Notes:

Containers and hanging baskets are the primary use. It is a great component plant in container recipes. It can tolerate drought stress well once established, but does not tolerate wet soils over time.

    Maintenance Notes:

This is a plant that doesn't like wet soils, although it will thrive with consistently moist soil.   It is best suited to be planted in containers where good drainage is ensured. This plant may look rather finicky, but it is tougher than it looks.  Once it is established you may be surprised by how vigorous it is.  It can be fed the same as your other annuals and while it may seem like a shade plant, it is actually quite sun tolerant.

    • This is my absolute favorite plant. I have 6 of them, all planted in the yard (zone 9B). When you drive up to our house, the bright silver jumps out at you. I'm also rooting some leaves in case they don't all make it through the winter. Our climate is pretty mild, but we've had a few frosts already.

    • I have one plant of Senecio Angel Wings planted in a large black pot on patio in almost full sun. It is one of the plants that the deer who visits every nigh has not touched. It has filled the pot with large white fuzzy leaves. We have had frosts at night recently (zone 4) so I will bring it in to try to keep it over winter.

    • I have 2 in separate containers. One in morning sun and the other in full sun. This plant is growing quicker in the full sun container with soil consistently moist.
