Professional Growing Information I grew these in pots and they did not disappoint. No deadheading, just regular watering, occasional pruning of the really long stems to encourage new growth, and occasional fertilizing starting midsummer. I put two plants in a 20" round planter and they took over the entire thing all the way to the ground by midsummer. They persisted like this until Thanksgiving in Zone 6. The whole neighborhood wanted to know where I got them!

I make OTHER plants green with ENVY.Supertunia petunias are vigorous with slightly mounded habits that function as both fillers and spillers in containers. THey are also excellent landscape plants, best suited to be placed near the front of beds. They have medium to large sized flowers.
Plants may be trimmed back with a sharp pair of scissors or pruning shears at anytime, although this is not usually necessary. Plants may flush out of flower if night temperatures begin to stay in the upper 70's or above. If this happens a light trim to shape them would be good. The trim will increase branching and will result in more flowers once the temperatures fall and the plants begin flowering again.
A yearly application of fertilizer or compost on garden beds and regular fertilization of plants in pots will help ensure the best possible performance.

Maintenance Notes:These are heat tolerant plants, that aren't particularly fussy and need little routine maintenance. They will perform best if an application of controlled release fertilizer is included at the time of planting. This applies to both landscape and container plantings. Supertunias are heavy feeders, but a single dose is usually sufficient for landscape beds in most climates. If you have a very long season, a second application of controlled release plant food should be considered for landscape plantings. In general, containers need to be fed more than landscape plants. Supertunias in containers will need to be fed more regularly to be their absolute best. A second application of a controlled release fertilizer can be applied about every two months to container plants, which will help. However, for the very best performance I find regularly applying water soluble fertilizer starting about two months after the containers are planted gives the best results. These extra applications of plant food really makes a difference in performance through the summer.
If your plant begins to look open or a bit tired, an allover trim can be beneficial. Use a sharp pair of scissors or pruning shears to trim back up to 1/3 of the volume of the plant. I pair any trim with a dose of water soluble fertilizer to provide instant energy to help kickstart new growth, branching and flowering. Your plant will take a week to recover from the trim, but the end result is a fuller plant with more blooms going forward. You may repeat the trim as needed through the season.

I received these plants a little over a week ago. I purchased directly from Proven Winners for the first time, a decision I made hoping it would be better than buying stuff at the individual nurseries. I will never do that again! My plants still have absolutely no flowers or buds on them and it is almost June. I may even go out and replace them at this point. At least triple the expense, but likely a bit more because of shipping costs and now a huge nuiscance to replace plants. I am beyond disappointed!

I was pleased with my Bordeaux petunias. I put two plants into a hanging pot in a sunny location. They grew rapidly and tumbled over the sides of the pot. The plants required only a little pruning to keep a nice shape. It's October now and they still look nice. I think this variety would look good in a combo pot with other flowers. I knocked a star off because while they had a good number of flowers, they weren't covered with them.

I did my best to kill them by keeping them in their PW pots for 6weeks longer than I should have. When I did plant them, because I have pretty much all clay soil I amended with Harvest Clay Breaker soil and leaf compost,(not in a raised or planter bed but in the ground directly) then threw in about a 1/3-1/2 Cup of Plant Tone in each hole before placing in plant and watered deeply. Slow start because I thought the chipmunks or voles got to them and had very low expectations but now they are going like gang busters & looking so beautiful. I’m a less than novice gardener in case you hadn’t realized, so anything that survives me will survive anyone. I try to fertilize every week or two with a liquid fish fertilizer but usually forget to do it when I should. So, in spite of me they’re thriving. My husband wanted me to throw in that my dog Henry ~waters~ them when I’m not looking. These are pet proof to! LOL For those having any trouble, if you give too much love and over think them to death that’s probably why they aren’t as successful. PW Supertunia creators, from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU! Next year I’m going to get so many more than the 4 I bought this year and really show these off.

We planted these in our deck planter boxes that face SW in April of last year and had blooms through the end of august. These were planted along with dark purple and white supertunias. We ended up getting budworms quite bad in august and rather than treat them, we pulled them out for the season. I have no doubt if I treated them with BT they would have lasted through October. We were so thrilled with them last year, we planted them with the same color combo again this year.

First season growing any Proven Winners & I am thoroughly impressed. These are the perfect inground mounding flower for me. The area gets sun from 3pm-8pm most of the season and perfromed perfectly. Zone 5a.
